Department Announcements ScreeningsDuring the next few months, our school nurses will be conducting hearing screening for Grades K – 3, 8 &10, vision screening for Grades K – 5, 8 &10 and BMI (height & weight) screenings for Grades 1, 4, 7 &10. These screenings are mandated by The Massachusetts Department of Public Health. Parents will be notified by mail of findings with recommendation for follow up with an appropriate healthcare provider. Flu UpdateThe Massachusetts Department of Public Health has recommended the flu vaccine (injection or nasal spray) be given to everyone 6 months of age or older. This year’s vaccine contains protection against both H1N1 and seasonal influenza.
Please be advised that flu clinics will NOT be offered this year in our schools. We strongly encourage you to take your child to his/her primary care provider for the flu vaccine.
Children who have flu-like illness (fever with cough or sore throat) should be kept home for at least 24 hours after they no longer have a fever (without the use of fever reducing medicines). For most children this will be about 4 days.
Thank you for your help and cooperation in keeping our children and our schools healthy. For more information about the flu, go to mass.gov/flu. |
